Telegram becomes the most downloaded app in the world, beating TikTok, Signal, Facebook, Whatsapp

Telegram has become the number one most downloaded non-gaming app in January 2021, surpassing WhatsApp. India’s share in the total downloads received by Telegram is 24%. This has been revealed by the latest data of Sensor Tower. Messaging app Telegram has received a total of 6.3 crore downloads last month. Accordingly, Telegram has got 1.5 crore new users in India in January. People are unhappy after the new privacy policy of WhatsApp in India and hence are switching to other messaging platforms like Telegram and Signal. For this reason, users are increasing on other messaging platforms Telegram and Signal.

Whatsapp is facing losses due to its new privacy policy. Among the most downloaded apps in January, Telegram is followed by TikTok, Signal and Facebook. WhatsApp has moved to fifth position in the most downloaded list. Earlier, WhatsApp was at number three in this list. After India, Telegram has got the highest installation base from Indonesia. Indonesia’s share in the total downloads received by Telegram is 10%.

TikTok is at second place in the list of most downloaded. TikTok got 62 million downloads in January. China has the highest share in these downloads at 17%. After this, America’s share is 10 percent. Although TikTok is banned in India. TikTok was banned in India last year and it is still banned in India. Apart from this, more than 100 Chinese apps including PUBG were also banned in India.

TikTok was the most downloaded app in December 2020. According to the report of Sensor Tower, at that time TikTok was not even included in the top five list. But after WhatsApp’s policy, Telegram benefited the most in January and became the most downloaded app. In January 2021, Instagram has come at number six among non-gaming apps. After this there are Zoom, MX Taka Tak, Snapchat, and Messenger.
