The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) of the Government of India has written a letter regarding WhatsApp. This letter has been written to WhatsApp CEO Will Cathcart. In this letter, WhatsApp has been asked to withdraw the changes made in its privacy policy update in India. Under the new privacy policy of WhatsApp, it can share users’ data with its parent company Facebook. It has been said in the letter that the change in policy by the messaging app is not right and cannot be accepted.

In a letter written to the CEO of WhatsApp, MEITY has raised questions on the information security of the users and said that by sharing the data of users’ chats with business accounts, other companies of Facebook will get information about the users, which is in accordance with the privacy of the users. Is not okay with. This may pose a threat to the safety of users.

Whatsapp has given time till May 15 to the users to review its new policy. However, according to MEITY, WhatsApp’s statement regarding the policy that either accept it or leave it, is forcing the users to accept the new conditions. Apart from this, the ministry has also said that there are different policies for the European Union and India. Why is WhatsApp adopting? India is a big market for WhatsApp, where it has the largest user base. But the different policies of the company show that it does not respect Indian users.

Regarding the policy of WhatsApp, earlier the Delhi High Court had said that it is a private app. In such a situation, the court had told the people that if they do not like the policy of WhatsApp then they can leave it. Earlier, a survey had revealed that after the new policy, only 18 percent users in India can continue using WhatsApp. At the same time, 36 percent of the users have expressed the possibility that they will reduce WhatsApp usage significantly. Apart from this, 15 percent of the users have expressed the possibility of closing the app completely amid the privacy dispute.
