New Delhi. Tata Power has partnered with Druk Green Power Corporation Ltd. to develop 5,000 MW of clean energy capacity in Bhutan. (DGPC) has entered into a strategic partnership. DGPC, Druk Holding and Investments Ltd. Is a subsidiary company of. It is the only power generation company in Bhutan. Tata Power said in a statement on Tuesday that this is the largest partnership between two major power companies of the two countries in the clean energy sector of Asia. According to the statement, at least 5,000 MW of renewable energy projects will be developed through the collaboration.
It includes hydropower projects of 4,500 MW capacity including Dorjilung Hydroelectric Project of 1,125 MW capacity. Apart from this, Tata Power’s subsidiary Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd. Will develop 500 MW solar projects (TPREL). Praveer Sinha, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director, Tata Power, said, “Tata Power’s partnership with Druk Green Power Corporation reinforces our credentials as the preferred clean energy partner in the region. Together we will create 5,000 MW of clean energy capacity.
“This partnership will help harness Bhutan’s hydropower potential and meet the growing energy demand of both countries through reliable and 24-hour clean energy supply,” he said. Together, we are shaping a new energy era.” The statement said the agreement was signed in Thimphu between DGPC Managing Director Dasho Chhewang Rinjin and CEO and Managing Director of Tata Power in the presence of Bhutan’s Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay. The memorandum (MoU) was signed on Tuesday. Energy and Natural Resources Minister Lyonpo Jam Tshering, Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran, Indian Ambassador to Bhutan Sudhakar Dalela and other senior officials of the Government of Bhutan, Indian Embassy, DGPC and Tata Power were present on the occasion.
Dasho Chhewang Rinjin, Managing Director, DGPC, said, “This strategic partnership with Tata Power is in line with Bhutan’s aspirations to maximize benefits to its people through rapid harnessing of its vast renewable energy resources for economic development and long-term energy security. Tata Power has had a long standing relationship with DGPC since 2008. At that time both the companies came together to successfully develop the 126 MW Dagachhu Hydropower Plant as the first public-private partnership in Bhutan’s hydropower sector. Tata Power also has the 1,200 km long Tala Transmission Line Project. Through this, the company supplies clean electricity from Bhutan to India.
