However, information related to the new feature was also revealed last week through the FAQ page. This much-awaited feature was first introduced by Snapchat, however now it is going to be introduced in WhatsApp. This feature was seen in WhatsApp beta version last month. This feature provides users with the option to automatically make a message in a personal chat or group disappear after 7 days.

WhatsApp recently published FAQs on its support page to provide information on how to enable and disable this new disappearing message feature on different devices.

The disappearing message feature available on WhatsApp is different from the feature that works on Telegram. While on Telegram users get the facility to set the period for which messages disappear in chat, on WhatsApp, a message sent disappears after 7 days. Snapchat, on the other hand, deletes snaps after they are opened, while unopened snaps on groups are deleted within 24 hours, while other unopened snaps are deleted within 30 days.

The disappearing messages feature will have to be enabled separately in all individual or group chats, which you can access by clicking on any chat or group WhatsApp chat. After the feature is enabled, the new message sent by the user to the selected chat will automatically disappear from the chat after 7 days. However, a preview of the disappearing message may be displayed in the notification until the message is opened. The reply given on the disappearing message will also remain in the chat for seven days only.

If you send a disappearing message, the person receiving the message can take a screenshot of the message or copy or save it before it disappears.
