Is 5 thousand rupee note really going to be issued?
Now the Fact Check Unit of PIB has responded to this message going viral on social media. PIB has made it clear in its post that RBI is not going to issue any such note. This news is completely wrong. At present, only Rs 10, 20, 50, 100, 500 and Rs 2000 notes are legal tender in the country. However, from the year 2023 itself, RBI has stopped printing Rs 2,000 notes and has also appealed to the people that if they have Rs 2,000 notes then they should deposit them in the bank.
What is written in the post going viral
In the post going viral on social media, the user has written, ‘5000 New Note. New notes of five thousand rupees are about to be issued. RBI has given this information. RBI will soon issue new notes of Rs 5,000. However, refuting this post, PIB’s fact check team has informed on X and other social media platforms that this news is completely fake and RBI is not going to issue any such note.
Earlier there used to be 5 thousand rupee notes
It is not that there have never been Rs 5000 notes in India. 5000 rupee notes were printed for the first time in the country in the year 1938, at that time there was British rule. Later it was closed in 1946. However, after independence, in 1954, Rs 5000 notes were once again printed in the country and it was printed by the government of independent India. But, in 1978, notes of Rs 5000, Rs 1000 and Rs 10000 were withdrawn.
