New Delhi. Air India chief Campbell Wilson said the company has made great progress since privatization and its global reach will further expand in the coming years. He said interior renovation work on the single-aisle fleet serving domestic and short-haul international destinations is underway and will be completed by mid-2025. Loss-making Air India was acquired by the Tata Group from the government in January 2022. It is undergoing an ambitious five-year transformation plan.
Air India completed the merger of Vistara with itself in 2024 and also the integration of Air India Express and AIX Connect. Wilson said in his New Year message that these mergers and the delivery of new aircraft take the number of aircraft in the Air India Group’s fleet to 300, which will help it expand to more than 100 domestic and international destinations.
“Air India’s global coverage will further expand in the coming years with the recent addition of 100 aircraft to our order book, increasing our commitment to 470 aircraft in 2023,” Wilson said. Said that these new aircraft will be delivered to a new 12-bay maintenance facility and maintenance training school in Bengaluru (Karnataka), a new 34-aircraft flight school in Amravati (Maharashtra) and Gurugram (Haryana).
