Karimganj district of Assam will now be named ‘Shrebhoomi’. Its proposal was passed in the state cabinet meeting on Tuesday. Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma gave this information on Twitter. He wrote- More than 100 years ago, Kaviguru Rabindranath Tagore had described Karimganj district as ‘Shri Bhoomi’, the land of Mother Lakshmi.

Center can sell stake in 4 government banks
The central government may sell stake in 4 public sector banks to comply with market regulator SEBI’s mandated public shareholding norms. The Finance Ministry will reduce stake in Punjab and Sindh Bank, UCO Bank, Indian Overseas Bank and Central Bank of India. The ministry will have to take approval from the Union Cabinet. The government is preparing to sell its stake in the open market. After the news, the shares of these banks saw a rise of up to 4%.
Indira Gandhi Peace Prize awarded to Barenboim and Awwad for their work to promote Israel-Palestine friendship
The Indira Gandhi Peace, Disarmament and Development Award for the year 2023 was given to Daniel Barenboim and Ali Abu Awwad. Both of them have dedicated their lives to promoting friendship between the Israeli and Palestinian peoples through non-violent means of music, dialogue and people-to-people participation. The winners were selected by a jury comprising former CJI of India T S Thakur. The award was given during the virtual ceremony on the birth anniversary of Indira Gandhi on Tuesday.
