One such name is that of Dr. Murali Krishna Prasad Divi, associated with the pharmaceutical industry, who is one of the most successful entrepreneurs in this field today. Founder and MD of Divi’s Laboratories Dr. Murali K. Divi is also the richest person of Hyderabad. However, his journey to the top was not easy, as at one time he had to struggle even to pass his 12th examination.
Born in a small village in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh, Dr. Divi was not special in studies, hence he always had to face academic challenges. He also failed in his class 12th examination. Somehow he passed 12th and took admission in Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharma). But here too he kept struggling since the first year. Still, Divi did not give up and completed her degree.

Where did you start your career?
In the year 1975, he started his career as a trainee in Warner Hindustan. But Divi wanted to do business. But before that he wanted to experience. So he went to America and started working for 7 dollars.
Birth of Divi’s Laboratories
Due to a family emergency he had to return to Hyderabad. Where in the year 1984, he along with Dr. Kallam Anji Reddy bought Cheminor Drugs Company. By the year 1990, Dr. Dewey decided to take a bold step and established Dewey’s Research Center Pvt. Ltd. This company initially provided technology and consulting services to other pharmaceutical companies.

In 1994, he invested his savings to set up a state-of-the-art API (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients) plant in Nalgonda, which was the real beginning of Divi’s Laboratories.
Within a few days, Dr. Divi and his company started getting recognition. He refused to infringe patents or take unethical shortcuts. As a result of his dedication, Divi’s Laboratories established strong relationships with eight of the world’s top 10 pharmaceutical companies. Today, this company is one of the financially strongest companies in India. In October 2024, Dewey and his family were ranked 29th on the Forbes list of India’s 100 richest people, with a net worth of $9.2 billion.
