Government now guards Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Disney+ Hotstar

Now the Indian government will have control over Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Disney + Hotstar. Yes, from now on online content providers and online news portals will be under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. This information has been made public by issuing a notification by the Cabinet Secretariat. Till now there was no government body that controlled digital media platform content.

Let us tell you that other content is controlled by bodies like Press Council of India, News Broadcasters Association, Advertising Standards Council of India and Central Board of Film Certification.

Now the President of India Ramnath Kovind has signed a new amendment law to the Government of India (Allocation of Business) Rules 1961 on November 9.

After this amendment, now online films and audio-visual programs, online news and other content will come under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

It is noteworthy that two weeks ago, Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar had indicated that the government can control online platforms. He had indicated this in a conversation with Indian Express.
