Canadian PM Justin Trudeau came to India for the 2023 G20 Summit.
The Indian government has completely rejected the report of the Canadian newspaper The Globe and Mail, which alleged that the Indian Prime Minister had prior knowledge about the plan to assassinate Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Regarding this, India said that this is a ‘campaign to defame’ it.
External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that we generally do not comment on media reports. However, such “absurd statements” and ridiculous statements should be rejected as they deserve.
Randhir Jaiswal further said, such misrepresentations further damage our already strained relations.
Claim in the report – Doval and Jaishankar also had information
The Canadian newspaper report also claims that Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Foreign Minister S Jaishankar were also aware of this conspiracy.
This is the first time in Nijjar’s murder case that allegations have been made directly against PM Modi. However, the report also claims that the Canadian government does not have any concrete evidence regarding this.
PM Modi and Trudeau met at G20 summit
Prime Minister Modi and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau were seen talking to each other during the group photo of the G20 Summit.
Earlier, during the G20 Summit in Brazil, a picture of PM Modi and Canadian PM Justin Trudeau came together, after which it was believed that this could be the beginning of melting the ice in the relationship between the two.
However, the very next day of this meeting, the Trudeau government increased the security checks of passengers coming to India. Because of this, passengers have to go through strict security checks at the airport. According to Canadian news agency CBC, officials did not give any reason for increasing the security check.
Nijjar was murdered while leaving the Gurudwara.
On the evening of June 18, 2023, Nijjar was shot dead while leaving a Gurudwara in Surrey city. Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau had accused the Indian government of involvement in Nijjar’s murder, which India rejected.
After this, the tension between the two countries had increased considerably. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had alleged that Canada gives visas to those who are wanted in India. He had said, ‘People associated with organized crimes in Punjab are welcomed in Canada.’
At the same time, the Parliament of Canada had paid tribute to Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar on the completion of one year of his murder. For this, one minute silence was kept in the Parliament.
