New Delhi. In the next 5 years, the number of passenger aircraft in India will increase rapidly and it will increase to 1400. Civil Aviation Secretary Wumlunmang Wualnam said the number of aircraft owned by domestic airlines will increase to 1,400 in the next five years. At present, there are about 800 aircraft in the fleet. Meanwhile, the country’s major airline companies Indigo and Air India have given big contracts for planes. At the ‘Giving Wings to Dreams Awards 2024’ organized by ‘Women in Aviation India’ in collaboration with the Ministry of Aviation, the Secretary also mentioned the opportunities available to women in the aviation sector, including drones.
Vulnam said that in the next 10 years the number of airports will double from the current 74 to 157. The number of passengers will also double from 11 crore to 22 crore. He also said that production based incentive of Rs 120 crore (PLI) The scheme was successful and the total turnover of the beneficiary companies has increased to Rs 1,400 crore.

5 big companies came into existence in 17 years
The first PLI scheme for drones was launched in 2021 with an outlay of Rs 20 crore for three financial years from FY 2021-22 which has now ended. There was a time when there were many airline companies in India including Kingfisher, Jet Airways, Air Sahara. In the last 17 years, about 5 airlines providing full service in India have closed down.
While Kingfisher ended in the year 2012 itself, Jet Airways bought Air Sahara and started flights under the name JetLite. Jet Airways is also closed since 2019. Jet Airways provided services for about 25 years. At present, only two big companies like Air India and Indigo Airlines are present in the airline market.
