MoCA bluntly tells airlines-airport operators when flights will be cancelled, passengers will have to provide these special facilities

Airport News: In view of the increasing havoc of fog, the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) has come into action. On Wednesday, the Ministry has clearly told the airlines and airport operators that after how much time the flights will be canceled and what facilities will be made at the airport. In fact, Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu had called a high-level meeting on Wednesday to take stock of the current status of preparations for flight operations during fog.

Aviation Secretary, Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), Indian Meteorological Department, airport operators and representatives of various airlines participated in this meeting called by Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu. He has made it clear to the airlines and airport operators that their approach should be passenger centric. Giving the theme ‘Ease of Flying’, he has asked to give priority to passenger facility and security.

After taking stock of the preparations at the Airport Operation Control Room, Minister Ram Mohan Naidu has given instructions to maintain real time coordination between ATC, airlines, ground handlers and airport operators, so that airport operations can continue without any hindrance. Apart from this, instructions have been given to include Cat 3 trained pilots and equipped aircraft in the roster for fog-affected airports including Delhi. Also, all airlines and operators have been asked to strictly follow the guidelines of DGCA.

During the meeting, Minister Ram Mohan Naidu was informed that currently four airports are operational at Delhi Airport. Three out of four runways are equipped with Cat 3 ILS system. Here, aircraft operations can be continued even in visibility conditions of up to 50 metres. The ministry has asked IGI airport operator DIAL to install LED screens in prominent locations, so that passengers can get real time updates. Apart from this, instructions have also been given to increase the number of passenger vehicles on the air side.

Minister Ram Mohan Naidu has also directed airlines to provide information to passengers about possible delays and cancellations due to bad weather. Apart from this, while booking the ticket, it should be ensured that the correct mobile number of the passenger is entered. Apart from this, the Ministry has clearly told the airlines that if there is a delay of more than three hours due to fog, the flight will have to be cancelled.
