More than 20 lakh ICICI customers are availing the benefits of banking on WhatsApp

WhatsApp is expanding its footprint in India, not only as an instant messaging app but also as the only platform that offers commercial banking facilities to its users in the country. During the Facebook ‘Fuel for India’ virtual event held on Wednesday, ICICI Bank announced that more than 20 lakh customers have adopted banking facilities on WhatsApp. Let us tell you, ICICI Bank is one of the five banks under whose partnership WhatsApp payment feature has been introduced. This facility is initially available to a maximum of 20 million (2 crore) registered users.

ICICI Bank started banking service on WhatsApp in the month of April and by the month of July, about 10 lakh people had joined this facility. Using this, some basic banking facilities are available to ICICI customers, like checking their account balance. Viewing your last three transactions, knowing branch and ATM location, getting information related to loan, etc.

Apart from offering banking facilities, ICICI Bank is also one of the banks whose partnership has enabled WhatsApp payments. This service has been given the green signal by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) only last month and now it has been made live for 2 crore users.

Like ICICI Bank, Axis Bank and HDFC Bank are also other partner banks in whose partnership the payment feature has been brought on WhatsApp.

Let us tell you, currently there are more than 400 million users on WhatsApp in India. However, the payment feature has been limited to barely 5 percent of the user base. The list of partner banks in WhatsApp Payments includes State Bank of India and Jio Payments Bank as well as ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank and Axis Bank.
