Tesla Chinese Rival BYD Made Strong Performance, Sells More than 42 Lakh Units

BYD, one of the largest companies manufacturing electric vehicles (EV), has set a sales record last year. This Chinese company has sold about 42.5 lakh units. Elon Musk’s Tesla is facing tough competition from BYD in the international EV market. BYD has set a monthly sales record in December. The major reasons behind this are subsidies and incentives to customers.

BYD has sold 5,09,440 units in December. This includes 2,07,734 EVs. Last year, the company’s total EV sales were around 17.6 lakh units. The company’s annual sales have increased by about 41 percent on year-on-year basis. BYD lagged behind Tesla in quarterly sales last year. However, due to rapid increase in its sales in the fourth quarter, its gap with American company Tesla may reduce. Tesla’s fourth quarter sales figures will be reported this week.

BYD’s portfolio in India includes Atto 3, e6 and Seal. The company has introduced Seal in three variants. It is available in two options of single and dual motor and two battery packs. Its price is around Rs 41 lakh to Rs 53 lakh (ex-showroom). It has three variants – Premium, Dynamic and Performance. The company’s target is to rapidly expand its sales and service network. The entry level Dynamic variant of Seal comes with RWD setup. Its price is around Rs 41 lakh (ex-showroom). The price of the Premium variant with its RWD setup is around Rs 45.55 lakh and the top-end Performance variant is priced at Rs 53 lakh.

It has been brought to the country as a Completely Built Unit (CBU). It is available in Arctic Blue, Aurora White, Atlantis Grey, and Cosmos Black colours. The range of this electric car on a single charge is approximately 650 kilometers. Its dynamic variant generates power of 201 bhp and peak torque of 310 Nm. The maximum power of its premium variant is 308 bhp and torque is 360 Nm. Both the motors of its performance variant generate maximum power of 522 bhp and torque of 670 Nm.
